This very rare chest of drawers was created around 1930 by Art Deco master and designer of Radio City Music Hall, Donald Deskey. The workman ship exhibited in the execution of this piece makes it a stand out. Made by New York City based workroom Schmieg, Hungate, & Kotzian. This is where Deskey had all of his custom works fabricated. The use of the burl wood as a design element is pure Donald Deskey accentuated by the contrast of the cream lacquer. The bold and simplistic hardware is another Deskey signature as are the combination of both right angles and curves. The chest has a combination of both very large drawers with small drawers flanking them to the left. This is a perfect example of Donald Deskey at his finest. The chest has the makers mark and registration number stamped into the backside as seen in picture 15. Included in the listing are 2 pictures from the out of print book “Donald Deskey Decorative Designs and Interiors” both the cover and page 87 where the same model dresser is published. This is a rare chance to own a true piece of American design history!
