This elegant pair of Chinese inspired table lamps was designed by legendary Hollywood decorator William Haines, dating to the 1960s, and sourced from the estate of iconic actor Kirk Douglas. Each lamp features a richly detailed Chinese urn base, hand-decorated in a vibrant palette of yellow, rose, and celadon hues. These detailed urns are adorned with bas-relief floral motifs and finely rendered landscape scenes, including butterflies, peonies, and scholars’ rocks, evoking traditional Chinese decorative arts. The rectangle marking in picture 14, translated to “Hall of Great Elegance”, is associated with imperial workshops of the Late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period (1912-1949), and is found on high quality porcelain of the period. The circular seal in picture 13 likely identifies the artist and/or workshop.
Mounted on custom black painted wood bases measuring 8″x 6″ and topped with classic pleated shades, the lamps are wired for modern use. There is a small chip on one of the flower petals, shown in picture #8. A rare opportunity to acquire a piece that blends Haines’ timeless glamour with Asian-inspired sophistication and Hollywood provenance. Perfect for collectors and design aficionados alike.
