This is a rare umbrella stand by Piero Fornasetti, utilizing a Capelli or hat pattern as a motif. Clustered colorful hats line the front of the stand. An umbrella stand is fixed to the back for storage. Multiple colors allow this to be used in any interior. The process of applying motifs in this manor begins with the transfer of lithography and then all the colors are applied by hand, creating a unique version each time.
This is a wonderful example “Trompe-l’oeil” French for “to fool the eye” and the colors used in this example are vibrant and rich. This stunning and rare Fornasetti piece will be a treasure anywhere it is placed!
Fornasetti is a luxury artistic design company founded in 1940 in Milan by Piero Fornasetti, now run by the founder’s son, Barnaba Fornasetti, which is known internationally for the creation of porcelain and handmade decorative objects for the home.
