This is a gorgeous pair or original Mastercraft Greek Key arm dining chairs designed by Bernard Rohne. The original fabric is a deep burnt orange, both the seats and backs are tufted adding to the interest of these chairs. The original patina is a warm brass. Very much reflecting the Hollywood Regency period, these dining chairs can easily be admired as 2 ocassional chairs or head chairs at the dining table. These chairs would shine in an eclectic interior where different styles are welcomed and appreciated.
Artist Bernard Rohne specialized in metallurgy and works in various metals. In the mid to late 1960’s he began collaborating with furniture makers. He is known for his pioneering work with acid-etched metal in the 1970s and 80s. His Chinoiserie furniture for Mastercraft is perhaps his best known and most loved collection. Many of his pieces go through various stages of acid etching, chemical oxidizing, hand coloring and extensive hand finishing. By the 1970’s he had established himself as an artistic furniture designer, introducing new techniques and styles now highly sought after.
