Well rendered depiction of Icarus, in brown stained terracotta on an angular stone base. Statue is signed but it is difficult to interpret the signature. It appears to be “Faffa Alessoundro.” It is also inscribed “fece” which translates to “he made” in Italian, then dated 1940, Perugia, Italia.
Back has a finished hole the diameter of 1/2″ which may be intended for hanging. The angle of the base makes this entirely possible. Stone base has natural, unfinished, rough edges. The statue does have a chip on the right wing, which is clearly shown in image 5. The chip measures 3/4″ x 1/4″ but doesn’t detract from the piece. It almost looks like an intended part of the design, adding to its feeling of antiquity.
