Madame Pompadour, vintage poster designed by Matisse
This vibrant, vintage, collectible poster was printed in 1951 to promote the Bal de l’Ecole des Arts décoratifs by Matisse’s trusted lithographer, Mourlot, with his printed signature at the lower right. The image reproduces an original gouache/paper cut out by Matisse, with the artist’s printed signature in the image, and Matisse’s handwritten script in the inset. It is included in many important museum collections.
The colors in this poster are very rich and looks as if it was never really exposed to much sunlight. It is in the original frame sandwiched between two pieces of glass, this has also prevented any foxing or acid damage to the print. This copy includes the exhibition information in the white box that is sometimes missing. Truly an excellent example of this work.
