uploading Original "Cabaret" Line Drawing by Al Hirschfeld
USA
1960's
An original line drawing by famed caricaturist Al Hirschfeld, picturing the original cast of the New York stage production of CABARET. India ink on artist's board, with original pencil sketch marks and erased areas visible. Mr. Hirschfeld's familiar signature is slightly faded in the bottom corner, as well as "Boston 3" in his handwriting. "Boston 3" refers to the out of town run and the three Nina's (the name of Hirschfeld's beloved daughter) hidden in the work.

The drawing depicts performers Jill Haworth, Joel Grey, Lotte Lenya, Jack Gilford, and Bert Convy. "Posted Nov 26 1966- 450 Auditing Dept." and "Cold Pressed" are stamped on the back of the board. There is tremendous wear and smudging on the back of the board, but the artwork on the front is in spectacularly fine condition- no tears or damage. Please see detailed shots for more information.

CABARET opened at the Broadhurst Theater in New York City on November 20, 1966.

The artwork has been carefully matted and framed in an acrylic shadow box. This is the original frame. The original drawing measures 12.5" wide by 22" in height.
